Robert S. Higgins, husband, father, grandfather, sailor, engineer, and seasoned world traveler went to his final rest with his family present on 31 March 2015 at his home in Norman, OK. Steve, as he liked to be called, was the second oldest son of five children born to William and Mary Britton Higgins. He was born on 22 November 1946 in Tulsa, OK and was raised in Hominy, OK where he graduated high school in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Robert S. Higgins, husband, father, grandfather, sailor, engineer, and seasoned world traveler went to his final rest with his family present on 31 March 2015 at his home in Norman, OK. Steve, as he liked to be called, was the second oldest son of five children born to William and Mary Britton Higgins. He was born on 22 November 1946 in Tulsa, OK and was raised in Hominy, OK where he graduated high school in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He became a Machinist Mate II and served during the Vietnam War until receiving an honorable discharge in 1969. After his military service, Steve married Marilyn in 1974, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977/78. Steve was a man who believed that a person makes their own way in the world and instilled that belief in the raising of his extended family of four sons. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn Higgins, and his two biological sons, Bryan Higgins (wife, Martha) of Corpus Christi, TX and Will Higgins of Norman, OK, as well as, his two step-sons whom he raised as his own, Chris Chancellor (wife, Christina) of Moore, OK and Michael Chancellor (wife, Lucinda) of Katy, TX. He was blessed with seven (7) grandchildren: Andrew Stephens, Joshuah, Christopher, and Justine Chancellor, Taylor Chancellor, and Peregrine and Wesley Higgins. Additionally, there are 3 great grandchildren with another due in August 2015. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, the Rev. Kathleen Higgins Losher (husband, Rev. Dr. D. Jay Losher, surviving, of Reston, VA). Additionally, he is survived by his brother Scott Higgins (wife, Sharon) of McLean, VA, Sharol Higgins Neely (husband, Jack) of Springfield, MO, Eileen Higgins Grantham (husband, Mark) of Hominy, OK and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. His absence is a great loss for anyone who knew him. Steve, along with his wife, have been veteran advocates for the past several years. Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday from 8am-8pm and Sunday 12pm-8pm at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave., Norman, OK. Memorial services may be planned at a later date.
